Philips EPIQ ultrasound system - Error 005 diagnosis

Introduction

Philips EPIQ ultrasound systems are highly complex pieces of equipment. One of the most common and frustrating errors is the appearance of Error 005 and Error 200, especially after a forced reboot or an unexpected shutdown.

In this article, based on internal Philips technical documentation (Memo #246189), we explain the root cause of this problem, its symptoms and, most importantly, how Triaxis Medical Service can resolve it remotely, without the need for an on-site visit.

What causes Error 005 and 200 on Philips EPIQ?

The root cause of these errors is documented by Philips. The problem originates in a specific behavior of the Power Regulator Board.

When the system is shut down unexpectedly (e.g., by holding the power button for 5 seconds), the regulator board does not fully discharge its residual energy before the system is powered on again. If rebooted too soon (in less than one minute), the high-voltage (HV) rails do not reach the proper level at startup, causing the EPIQ software to generate errors 005 and 200.

As seen in the error logs, the system detects that all eight high-voltage rails are below the expected limit (< 5V), triggering the overvoltage protection mode (PREG in Overvoltage Protection Mode).

Philips' Solution... and Ours

Philips' official solution is simple in theory: wait at least one minute after a forced shutdown before turning the system back on. This allows the regulator board to fully discharge and the voltage rails to stabilize.

However, in a clinical environment, one minute can feel like an eternity. And if the system still doesn't start even after waiting, the problem may be more complex, such as a failure on the regulator board itself or on the ACB cards.

This is where Triaxis Medical Service makes the difference

We don't just advise on the root cause; we can remotely diagnose the EPIQ system to determine if the solution is simply waiting or if there is a more serious hardware issue with the power supply.

Our specialists can:

  • Remotely review the system's error logs to confirm the root cause.
  • Guide hospital staff through a safe reboot process.
  • In case of hardware failure, manage the repair logistics, minimizing downtime.

Conclusion

Error 005 and 200 on Philips EPIQ is a well-known and documented issue by Philips. Its root cause is a failure in the discharge sequence of the power regulator board. While the simple solution is to wait, the professional solution is to have a specialist who can diagnose and resolve the problem from its root.

At Triaxis Medical Service, we are experts in the Philips platform. We not only understand the problems, but we know how to solve them efficiently and remotely, minimizing your equipment downtime and the impact on patient care.
